One of the most common questions we get from founders setting up in Armenia: "Which payment provider should I use?"
The answer depends on your business model, your clients, and your patience for compliance processes. Here is what we have seen in 2026.
Wise Business
Wise has become more accessible for Armenian companies over the past year. Their verification process is thorough but predictable.
What works well: - B2B service companies with clear client contracts - Tech companies with international revenue - Companies with founders who have existing Wise personal accounts
Watch out for: - Marketplace or platform businesses may face additional scrutiny - High-volume trading or crypto-adjacent activities are often declined
Typical timeline: 2-4 weeks from application to approval
Payoneer
Payoneer has a strong presence in the region and generally approves Armenian companies faster than other providers.
What works well: - Freelancer-founded companies - Agencies receiving payments from platforms (Upwork, Fiverr, etc.) - E-commerce businesses
Watch out for: - Payoneer's fees are higher than Wise for certain currency pairs - Their customer support can be slow for account issues
Typical timeline: 1-2 weeks from application to approval
PayPal Business
PayPal is the most difficult of the three for Armenian companies. Their compliance requirements are strict, and approval rates are lower.
What works well: - Companies with existing PayPal history in other jurisdictions - Businesses with strong track records and clear documentation
Watch out for: - First-time PayPal users face longer verification - Account limitations are common in the first few months
Typical timeline: 3-6 weeks, with possible delays
Our Recommendation
For most new Armenian companies, we recommend starting with Wise or Payoneer. Build your transaction history, demonstrate compliance, and consider adding PayPal later once you have an established track record.
We prepare applications to each provider's actual review standards. This includes structuring your company documents, preparing explanations for your business model, and anticipating the questions compliance teams will ask.
If you are setting up a company in Armenia and need payment infrastructure, start this process early. It is often the longest part of getting operational.
